Tentsmuir Point
On the promise of basking common seal pups, we headed to Tentsmuir Point in northern Fife. The carpark is full up with a hundred dogs and their owners, a group of mountainbikers and some more sunshine. Perfect.
A tenuous path weaves past the forest and through the back of the sand dunes. The boggy dunes before the sea to our right, and the forest to our left we make it finally to a gate, marking the start of Tentsmuir Reserve.
Through the gate we hopefully look for the seal pups basking on the sand, but to no avail. Luckily the colours of the sand and sea are spectacular, so we stand watching pippis and cockles bubble the red sand underneath the retracting teal waves.
Many passed waves later, we take our leave and head back to the car, briefly through the forest and then simply along a fire road. A beautiful place for a simple morning out – perhaps enjoyed even better with a pup or mountain bike.
