I am from Canberra, Australia, but am living the good/cold life in the UK for a wee while. From Glasgow in 2017/2018 we are headed to Bristol from 2019.

These are stories of Stomping Feat. travel, eating & drinking and the ideas I had along the way.

The Nevis Midges

The Nevis Midges

Ask a Glaswegian where to go for a beautiful Highland getaway? 'To Glen Coe!' is a familiar cry. One of our top picks for a ‘most beautiful part of Scotland’ (oh, we have so many), we thought it a great place to take some friends who are first-time-highland-visitors.

Waking up in our caravan home, right outside Glencoe village, a deer was sat outside in the field. The valley was filled with mist that melted as the sun came out. A perfect start to the day.

Our outdoor goal was to battle the midgies in their home ground – Glen Nevis. We did this walk as one of our first Scottish tramps, and thought sharing it with some special friends would only add to our experience of this beautiful place.

Walking through the ancient Caledonian pines, stepping over streams and enjoying the freshest smells of it all, we made quick work of the walk to the glen. Shedding layers from the warmth and dodging the midgies both high and competing priorities.

Arriving in Steall Meadows was spectacular as I had remembered, today perhaps even more so with the sunny company. The waterfall streaming from the week's deluge, spilling water much too cool for a dip.

Revisiting our most favourite places around Glasgow and in Scotland has become a true joy in our lives as we share these experiences with dear friends.

Another thing I am so grateful for.
