I am from Canberra, Australia, but am living the good/cold life in the UK for a wee while. From Glasgow in 2017/2018 we are headed to Bristol from 2019.

These are stories of Stomping Feat. travel, eating & drinking and the ideas I had along the way.

To Glasgow, with love

To Glasgow, with love

So we are off. In only three weeks we will be on our next adventure. We will be handing over the keys to our little Canberra home so that someone else can enjoy drinking gin in our garden. Instead, we will live in permanently affixed puffy jackets whilst in Glasgow for 8 months.

Andy will be busy winning at work, and I will be a lady of leisure/his personal travel agent. For 8 months I will be lucky enough to be on the gap year I never took, and am so grateful that I have been given the opportunity to do it.  So, while I am free from the pressure of work as I know it, I will do all of the things I have never done. Like write a blog to go with the photos that I love to take but normally don’t have time to focus on.

Things I have heard so far about Glasgow: Scottish culture runs deep, the people are lovely and the whisky is plentiful. These sound like perfect antidotes to the other thing I know about Glasgow: the terribly wet weather. So while I keep in mind advice from an old friend that ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, only poor clothing choices’, here is my list of must-do’s for while we call the land of the Gaels and Picts our home:

  • Volunteer at a Glaswegian institution
  • Learn to <3 whisky
  • Camp in the highlands
  • Get educated about Scottish history
  • Experience one new thing each week

Making my way through this short list will only be part of our Glasgow story, and you can follow along with this list in my Glasgow Diary. Other features will be about our travels, hiking, eating and cooking in Glasgow and beyond.
